Hollywood legend Jeff Goldblum has revealed that playing the Wizard of Oz in the upcoming Wicked movies had a profound effect on his personal life — inspiring him to quit eating meat and embrace a more compassionate lifestyle.
In a recent interview on the U.K. talk show This Morning, the 73-year-old actor opened up about how filming Wicked led him to rethink his diet and his relationship with animals.
“It’s changed me,” Goldblum shared. “After doing this movie, we talked about animal cruelty. I stopped eating meat and poultry. So this Christmas and Thanksgiving, I may be having something else instead.”
The Jurassic Park star’s decision highlights how the themes of empathy and morality in Wicked influenced his real-life choices. Known for his thoughtful and eccentric personality, Goldblum said the role encouraged him to consider how his actions impact “every creature on Earth.”
“I’m happy,” he added. “We need the world to work for everybody on Earth — and for every creature too.”
Jeff Goldblum’s Wicked Transformation
Goldblum plays the iconic Wizard of Oz in the highly anticipated film adaptations of Stephen Schwartz’s Broadway hit, Wicked. The movies, directed by Jon M. Chu, bring to life the story of Elphaba and Glinda — two women whose friendship and destinies shape the magical land of Oz.
The first installment, Wicked: Part One, premiered in November 2024 to rave reviews, while the sequel, Wicked: For Good, is set to hit theaters on November 21, 2025.
Based on Gregory Maguire’s 1995 novel, Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, the beloved musical explores themes of identity, power, and the blurred lines between good and evil — lessons that seem to have deeply resonated with Goldblum.
Supporting His Wicked Co-Star Jonathan Bailey
Goldblum has also been celebrating the success of his Wicked co-star Jonathan Bailey, who was recently named PEOPLE’s 2025 Sexiest Man Alive. The two actors shared a lighthearted moment in an interview with Entertainment Tonight, where they performed a playful medley of “sexy” songs, including the Hot Chocolate classic “You Sexy Thing.”
Bailey, who stars as Prince Fiyero Tigelaar in the Wicked films, humbly laughed off the title.
“It’s completely absurd,” Bailey joked. “Brilliant. Hilarious.”
He added, “I’m going to squeeze every ounce of sexuality I have for the next 360 days. I’m representing all the sexy people out there — and I feel the weight of all the sexy men that came before me.”
Goldblum quipped in response, “Yes, you stand on the sexy shoulders of giants. Sexy giants.”
From Oz to Advocacy: Jeff Goldblum’s Evolving Outlook
Known for his charisma and curiosity, Jeff Goldblum’s shift to a meat-free lifestyle reflects a growing trend among Hollywood stars using their platform to promote mindful living and sustainability.
By linking his personal transformation to his work on Wicked, Goldblum shows that storytelling can inspire real-world change. His decision also aligns with a broader movement in Hollywood, where stars like Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish, and Joaquin Phoenix have spoken out about animal welfare and environmental issues.
The Magic of Wicked Continues
With Wicked: For Good on the horizon, fans eagerly await to see Goldblum’s portrayal of the Wizard and how the story concludes. The film also stars Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba and Ariana Grande as Glinda, two powerhouse performers whose on-screen chemistry mirrors their real-life friendship.
Wicked remains a cultural phenomenon nearly two decades after its Broadway debut, and now its cinematic adaptation promises to introduce its message of empathy, courage, and transformation to a whole new generation.
As for Jeff Goldblum, his own transformation may be the most inspiring of all.
