Hollywood’s A-list duo Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stone are joining forces for an exciting new project: a feature film centered on the beloved Muppets icon, Miss Piggy. Announced during Lawrence’s appearance on the popular podcast Las Culturistas, this upcoming movie marks a major milestone for both actresses and for the iconic character.
Jennifer Lawrence Confirms Miss Piggy Movie
“I don’t know if I can announce this, but I am going to … Emma Stone and I are producing a Miss Piggy movie and Cole [Escola] is writing it,” Lawrence revealed during the podcast hosted by Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers.
The Oscar-winning actress, 35, emphasized that this will be a collaboration with her longtime friend Emma Stone. While still in the early stages at Disney, the project already has fans buzzing about the prospect of Lawrence and Stone potentially starring in the film themselves. Lawrence commented, “I think so. We have to… It’s f—ed up [that we haven’t done a movie together].”
First Solo Feature for the Muppets Diva
The film will mark Miss Piggy’s first solo feature. The character, a staple of the Muppets franchise, was originally created in the 1970s by Bonnie Erickson and Frank Oz. Miss Piggy made her first cinematic appearance in the 1974 film The Muppet’s Wizard of Oz but has never led her own film—until now.
This new project represents a significant moment for Disney and the Muppets franchise, expanding Miss Piggy’s presence beyond ensemble films to a starring role on the big screen.
Collaboration Between Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stone
Lawrence and Stone’s collaboration is highly anticipated, as the two have long been friends but have not previously worked together on a film. Fans are eager to see how their dynamic will translate on-screen, especially with Lawrence’s comment suggesting that they may both take leading roles.
Cole Escola, known for his sharp wit and unique comedic voice, is attached as the screenwriter, promising a script that blends humor, heart, and Miss Piggy’s trademark diva personality.
Jennifer Lawrence’s Upcoming Projects
In addition to producing the Miss Piggy movie, Lawrence’s latest film, Die My Love, hits theaters on November 7, 2025. The psychological thriller co-stars Robert Pattinson, LaKeith Stanfield, Sissy Spacek, and Nick Nolte, and follows Lawrence’s character Grace as she navigates her mental state after relocating from New York City to rural Montana.
Lawrence’s recent filmography also includes 2023’s No Hard Feelings, and she reportedly has The Wives, a murder mystery inspired by the Real Housewives franchise, in development.
Fans’ Reactions and Expectations
The announcement of a Miss Piggy feature film has sparked excitement among Disney and Muppets fans alike. Lawrence addressed potential misconceptions about the film’s tone, stating, “I’m nervous about the people that are going who think it’s like Twilight fan-fic. For those people, I just want to say, ‘Walk, don’t run [to see the movie]. Take your time. It’s poetry.’”
With Disney backing the project and Lawrence and Stone leading production, the Miss Piggy movie promises to be a fresh, star-studded take on one of Hollywood’s most iconic puppet characters.
