Ranchi, December 8, 2025: In a move aimed at boosting agricultural incomes and supporting local farmers, the Jharkhand Cabinet on Monday approved a state bonus of ₹81 per quintal for paddy farmers in addition to the Centre’s minimum support price (MSP) for the 2025-26 fiscal year. The decision was taken during a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Hemant Soren, reflecting the state government’s continued focus on agriculture and welfare measures for farmers.

Cabinet Secretary Vandana Dadel told reporters that the combined MSP and state bonus for paddy has been fixed at ₹2,450 per quintal, against the Centre’s MSP of ₹2,369 per quintal for common paddy. The bonus, amounting to ₹48.60 crore, is expected to directly benefit farmers by ensuring timely and enhanced financial returns for their crops.

Unlike previous practices where bonus payments were made in instalments, the government has decided to implement a one-time payment system. Farmers will receive the total bonus amount within 48 hours of procurement, and in exceptional cases, the payment may extend up to a week. This initiative is intended to provide immediate liquidity and financial support to farming households, particularly during the critical post-harvest period.

The Cabinet also took significant decisions regarding support for aspirants from Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Scheduled Caste (SC) communities preparing for civil services. The financial assistance under the “Mukhyamantri Anushuchit Janjati Anushuchit Jati Civil Seva Protsahan Yojana” has been increased from ₹1 lakh to ₹1.5 lakh for candidates who clear the preliminary stage of the civil services examination and prepare for the Mains and interview stages. Additionally, the annual family income limit for eligibility under this scheme has been raised from ₹2.5 lakh to ₹8 lakh, widening the scope to support more aspirants from economically weaker backgrounds.

Beyond agricultural and educational initiatives, the Cabinet also approved amendments to the guidelines for state festivals, categorizing them into two types: tourism festivals and cultural festivals. Expenditure limits have been specified for both categories, with a maximum allocation of ₹80 lakh for tourism festivals and ₹70 lakh for cultural festivals. This decision is expected to streamline expenditure, encourage tourism, and promote cultural heritage within the state.

The state bonus for paddy and the other welfare measures are part of a broader strategy by the Jharkhand government to incentivize agriculture, promote social equity, and ensure timely support for farmers and youth aspiring to government services. By offering an additional bonus over the Centre’s MSP, the government aims to provide paddy cultivators with better returns for their produce, enhancing their economic stability and encouraging sustained agricultural productivity.
