Jigawa Monarch Warns Imams Against Interfering in Judicial Matters

The Emir of Hadejia, Alhaji Dr. Adamu Abubakar Maje, has cautioned newly appointed Imams and Deputy Imams against involving themselves in judicial issues, stressing that such matters should always be referred to the appropriate authorities.

Speaking at his palace during the appointment of eleven Juma’at Mosque Imams and five Deputy Imams, the Emir emphasized that the primary role of clerics is to:

  • Provide spiritual guidance
  • Uphold religious values
  • Serve as moral leaders in their communities

He warned that interference in judicial matters could undermine the integrity of their office and affect their dignity. The Emir also stressed the importance of:

  • Maintaining discipline and unity among clerics
  • Strengthening collaboration between Imams and their deputies
  • Continuously seeking knowledge to enhance understanding of religious matters

Certificates of appointment were presented by Sheikh Dr. Yusuf Abdurrahman, Chief Imam of the Emirate, following a rigorous screening exercise at district and Emirate levels to ensure that only qualified candidates were selected to lead the Juma’at mosques.
