John Dickerson and Maurice DuBois Deliver Emotional Farewell on CBS Evening News

After more than a year of co-anchoring, John Dickerson and Maurice DuBois signed off together on the CBS Evening News for the final time on Thursday, December 18, 2025. The emotional farewell marked the end of their partnership on the national broadcast, which began roughly one year ago, amid ongoing changes at CBS News under editor Bari Weiss.

Dickerson, who joined CBS in 2009, announced his departure earlier this year following the controversial Paramount and Skydance merger, while DuBois revealed that he was leaving after two decades with the network.

Emotional Tribute Between Co-Hosts

During their final broadcast, both anchors shared heartfelt messages with viewers and each other. DuBois reflected on the honor of reporting across the country, highlighting coverage of communities affected by tragedy and loss:

“Being invited into your homes each night has been the honor of a lifetime. This year I’ve traveled the country to cover communities dealing with unspeakable tragedy and loss, but shining brightly always was the heart and soul of everyday people.”

Dickerson, visibly emotional, responded with gratitude, calling DuBois “a model for me and a trusted friend.” He shared behind-the-scenes glimpses of their collaboration, showing how the anchors planned segments together to meet viewers’ needs and support the CBS team of producers, correspondents, and editors.

“It has been an honor to put the work of our correspondents, producers, editors, and writers before you,” Dickerson said. “And to work with my partner, Maurice, who put his heart into our shared concern, doing right by you … your expectation has been our responsibility and our reward.”

The farewell concluded with a sign-off echoing Edward R. Murrow: “Thank you for watching. Good night and good luck.”

Transition at CBS Evening News

Following Dickerson and DuBois’ departure, substitute anchors will host the CBS Evening News until Tony Dokoupil, currently co-host of CBS Mornings, takes over the evening program permanently on January 5, 2026. Their tenure came after Norah O’Donnell’s five-year leadership of the show, and their exit reflects broader editorial changes at CBS News in 2025.

Legacy and Impact

Both Dickerson and DuBois leave CBS Evening News with a legacy of in-depth reporting and professional collaboration. DuBois was praised for his extensive field coverage, including the Los Angeles wildfires and international reporting from Gaza. Dickerson’s contributions included guiding the evening broadcast through a challenging media landscape while fostering a close partnership with DuBois.

Fans and colleagues alike noted the rare camaraderie between the anchors, highlighting the trust and respect they demonstrated on and off the air. Their final broadcast was not only a tribute to their careers but also a moment to honor the broader CBS News team.
