Jos Dental Students Lament 10 Years in School Without Graduation

The Jos University Dental Students’ Association (JUDENSA) has appealed to authorities over what it described as an unbearable delay that has kept some students in school for 10 years without graduation.

Speaking at a press conference in Jos, JUDENSA President, Johnson Titus Bisani, said dental students admitted to the University of Jos in 2015 for a six-year Dentistry programme have endured “a decade of frustration, delays, and emotional trauma.”

“We are not here to point fingers but to share our story in the hope of finding understanding, compassion, and real solutions,” Bisani said.
“This is about justice for young Nigerians chasing their dreams in dental healthcare.”

He noted that despite several appeal letters and meetings with university authorities, responses were minimal until after students staged a protest on April 25, 2025.

According to the students, the university management had earlier promised that the clinical phase of accreditation would be secured within six months of the first phase, allowing them to sit for their final clinical examinations and be inducted as dentists by 2025. However, this has yet to happen.

The Faculty of Dentistry, University of Jos, is the only dental school in Nigeria’s North Central zone, making its challenges critical to the training of dentists in the region.

The students called on the Federal Government, the Nigerian Dental Association, and well-meaning Nigerians to intervene so they can complete their studies and begin their professional careers.
