The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), Kogi State Branch, has declared an indefinite strike, effectively halting court operations across the state. The union cited the state government’s failure to fulfill financial obligations, including October 2024 salary arrears and the 2025 leave bonus, as the trigger for the action.
In a statement jointly signed by Branch Chairman Comrade Emmanuel Waniko and Secretary Comrade Sule Suberu, JUSUN accused the government of persistent insincerity. The union noted that a prior strike had been suspended based on a promise from Governor Ahmed Ododo, relayed through the Heads of Courts, which has now gone unfulfilled.
“All staff of Kogi State Judiciary should proceed on an indefinite strike effective Thursday, 4 December 2025. No staff should be seen engaging in any official functions until further notice,” the statement read.
The strike is expected to paralyse court operations statewide, potentially affecting hearings, bail applications, administrative processes, and other essential judicial services.
JUSUN emphasized that resumption will only occur once the outstanding arrears and leave bonuses are fully paid, warning that workers will not engage in official duties until their demands are met.
The union concluded the statement with a call for solidarity, saying:
“Fellow Comrades, the Union salutes your courage and support in the ongoing struggle. Aluta Continua; Victoria Acerta.”
