The Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru, has assured that the Ministry of Defence and the Military High Command will protect every soldier performing lawful duties.
Speaking during a press conference on the Armed Forces Remembrance Celebration and Remembrance Day 2026 at the National Defence College, Abuja, Badaru emphasized the commitment of the ministry to uphold the safety and rights of officers.
The statement comes in the wake of an altercation between FCT Minister Nyeson Wike and Navy Lieutenant AM Yerima over a land development dispute in Abuja, which reportedly involved a property linked to a former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Gambo.
“At the Ministry, and indeed across the Armed Forces, we will always protect our officers on lawful duty,” Badaru said.
“We are looking into this issue and assure that any officer performing his job lawfully will be fully protected. We will not allow anything to happen to him as long as he is carrying out his duties properly.”
Badaru’s comments reaffirm the government’s commitment to safeguarding military personnel while ensuring the rule of law is upheld.
