Kaduna Teachers, Students Applaud Improved Security as Schools Reopen

Public schools in Kaduna State reopened on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, following measures to enhance security across the state and the northern region. The reopening comes after schools were temporarily closed in response to a wave of student abductions in some northern states late last year, though Kebbi, Niger, and Kwara states had remained open.

Teachers and students welcomed the move, describing it as a positive step toward restoring normalcy and ensuring children can continue their education safely.

Mr. Adamu Sunday, a teacher at Government Day Secondary School, GRA, Sabon Tasha, praised the state government for prioritizing security. “The governor has shown concern not only for schools but for the safety of all residents,” he said, urging Nigerians to unite against forces of darkness and terrorism.

Mary Usman, another teacher, highlighted the proactive role of security forces, citing recent operations in Kajuru Local Government Area that neutralized terrorists and rescued kidnapped victims. She called for the complete eradication of banditry to allow residents to live and work freely.

Parents also expressed relief at the reopening. James Musa, a parent, noted that returning children to classrooms would reduce idle street roaming and prevent social vices, emphasizing the need for national unity to combat insecurity.

Students shared similar optimism. Mohammed Salihu, of Tafawa Balewa Memorial School, said Nigerians are more united than before in rejecting terrorism and banditry. He encouraged citizens to partner with the government for stability and warned against letting political or ethnic divisions weaken the fight against insecurity.

Overall, respondents told DAILY POST that the improvements reflect a growing commitment to safety and progress in Kaduna State and the country at large, with citizens increasingly demanding justice and positive change beyond religious or ethnic affiliations.
