Kano Authorities Seize 4,920 Bottles of Beer, Hand Over to Hisbah Islamic Police for Destruction

Kano authorities have intercepted a large shipment of alcoholic beverages, seizing 4,920 bottles of beer after operatives of the Kano State Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA) impounded three trucks transporting the drinks during a night operation.

Details of the Seizure

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the Managing Director of KAROTA, Faisal Mahmud, confirmed the operation in a statement issued by the agency’s Public Relations Officer, Abubakar Ibrahim, on Thursday.

Mahmud explained that the trucks, which contained 410 cartons of beer, were intercepted by KAROTA operatives during a night patrol on major streets within Kano city. The alcoholic drinks were being transported for distribution to various locations across the metropolis.

“The interception was in line with KAROTA’s mandate to identify and report suspicious movements,” Mahmud said.

Heightened Surveillance to Combat Intoxicants

Mahmud emphasized that KAROTA would continue to intensify surveillance efforts to curb the circulation of intoxicants, which are seen as harmful to public health in the state.

Transfer to Hisbah for Destruction

The seized trucks and their contents were handed over to the Kano State Hisbah Board for proper handling. The Commander-General of the Hisbah Board, Sheikh Aminu Daurawa, praised KAROTA for its vigilance and assured that due process would be followed in the destruction of the goods.

He was represented by Sani Nasidi, Chief Superintendent of Hisbah and Head of the Intoxicants Unit. Nasidi also reiterated the Hisbah Board’s commitment to working closely with KAROTA to combat the smuggling of prohibited goods into Kano.
