
Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf on Friday signed a bill establishing Gaya Polytechnic, a move aimed at expanding access to tertiary education and technical skills training in the state.
The signing ceremony was held at the Government House, Kano, with the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Jibril Ismail Falgore, and Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Muhammad Bello Butubutu, in attendance.
According to the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the bill follows a report by a 14-member committee tasked with overseeing the establishment of the polytechnic. Once operational, the institution is expected to:
- Provide vocational and technical training for youths
- Contribute to local job creation
- Strengthen educational infrastructure in Gaya and surrounding areas
Officials said the initiative aligns with the state government’s plan to support socio-economic development through education and skill acquisition programs.
