Kano Governor Yusuf Presents N1.368trn 2026 Budget

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, on Wednesday presented a N1.368 trillion budget proposal for the 2026 fiscal year to the State House of Assembly, describing it as a strategic plan to complete key projects and accelerate development across the state.

In a statement by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the governor explained that the budget earmarks 68% (N934.6bn) for capital expenditure and 32% (N433.4bn) for recurrent costs—one of the state’s highest capital allocations to date.

Education received the largest allocation with N405.3bn, followed by infrastructure with N346.2bn, and the health sector with N212.2bn.

“These allocations demonstrate our unwavering commitment to human capital development, the well-being of our people, and the physical foundation needed for sustainable growth,” Governor Yusuf said.

He added that other critical sectors—including Agriculture, Security, Commerce, Water Resources, Environment, Tourism, Women and Youth Development, and support for Persons with Special Needs—were adequately covered in the proposal.

Describing the budget as bold yet realistic, the governor noted that it aligns with the priorities of citizens and aims to build a stronger, more prosperous Kano.

He urged lawmakers to give the budget swift consideration and approval to ensure the timely execution of the proposed projects and services.
