The Kano State Bureau of Statistics (KSBS) has announced plans to carry out a comprehensive census of all tertiary educational institutions in the state from January 14 to January 23, 2026.
The Statistician-General of Kano State, Dr. Suraj Sulaiman, revealed that the 10-day exercise is designed to provide accurate and up-to-date data to guide policy formulation, planning, and resource allocation in the state’s tertiary education sector.
Dr. Sulaiman explained that the census will collect information on:
- Number and types of tertiary institutions
- Student enrollment figures
- Academic programmes offered
- Available infrastructure, including classrooms, laboratories, and libraries
- Staffing levels and staff qualifications
- Operational status of the institutions
He emphasized that the data would equip policymakers, education managers, and other stakeholders with reliable information to enhance educational outcomes across Kano State.
“The cooperation of all tertiary institutions is critical to shaping the future of education in Kano. The data gathered will play a key role in evidence-based decision-making,” Dr. Sulaiman said.
Trained enumerators and supervisors will be deployed for the census, and the success of the exercise depends largely on timely and accurate cooperation from the institutions.
According to Dr. Sulaiman, this census will be one of the most extensive data-gathering efforts in Kano State’s tertiary education sector in recent years, providing a clearer picture of existing capacities and challenges.
