As the one-year anniversary of Liam Payne’s tragic death approaches, his girlfriend Kate Cassidy has opened up about their emotional final moments together. The influencer shared a candid and heartbreaking reflection on the last time she saw the former One Direction star before his untimely passing in October 2024.
Cassidy’s Emotional Reflection
In a deeply personal video posted on October 12, Cassidy, 26, described her ongoing grief and the surreal numbness she continues to feel.
“I come on here not to cry — I feel honestly extremely numb today. I actually think somebody could slap me across the face and I wouldn’t be fazed,” she said.
She emphasized the importance of expressing love to those closest to us:
“I wanted to make this video because I wanted to express how important it is to really remind your loved ones how much you love them. I know I say it, but you never know what tomorrow brings.”
Their Last Goodbye
Cassidy recounted the poignant final moments she spent with Payne before leaving Argentina, where he tragically died just four days later.
“I was sitting on the couch, just expressing to him how much I’m going to miss him, how much I love him. Honestly, it’s so weird to look back at because it was such a long, heartfelt goodbye. He looked at me and he said, ‘[Kate], you’re going to miss your flight. You’re acting like this is the last time you’re ever going to see me again.’ And little did I know, it literally was the last time I got to see him,” Cassidy shared, her voice breaking.
She added that she is grateful for the chance to have had that meaningful farewell:
“I’m so, so glad that me and Liam had that last goodbye the way it was.”
Payne’s Tragic Death
On October 16, 2024, Liam Payne, 31, passed away after falling from the balcony of his hotel room in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The autopsy revealed polytrauma as the cause of death, with traces of alcohol, cocaine, and prescription antidepressants detected in his system.
Their Relationship Journey
Cassidy and Payne began dating in late 2022 after being spotted together at a Halloween party, with their relationship confirmed publicly in December 2022 at the British Fashion Awards. Despite reports of a split in May 2023, the couple was later seen together, dispelling rumors of their separation.
Cassidy’s Heartfelt Tributes
In the days following Payne’s death, Cassidy expressed her sorrow on Instagram, writing:
“Liam, my angel. You are everything. I want you to know I loved you unconditionally and completely. I will continue to love you for the rest of my life. I love you Liam.”
She attended Payne’s funeral in England in November 2024, alongside his former One Direction bandmates Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik, and Niall Horan.
