Kebbi Abduction: Peter Obi Echoes Trump, Calls Nigeria a ‘Disgraced Nation’

Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has restated former U.S. President Donald Trump’s description of Nigeria as a “now disgraced nation”, citing recent security incidents as evidence.

Obi made the statement on X, reacting to:

  • The abduction of 25 students from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, Kebbi State
  • The killing of Brigadier General Musa Uba in Borno State

He highlighted that these events occurred within a single week, arguing that the grim reality validates Trump’s characterization. Obi criticized the government and major political parties for being preoccupied with internal disputes and party wrangling instead of uniting to tackle national insecurity.

Obi compared the situation to the era of the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, when political stability and inclusive governance were prioritized. He stressed that democracy requires respecting opposition and carrying everyone along for peace and prosperity, contrasting this with the current political climate, which he described as divisive and weakening democratic institutions.
