Kebbi Government Denies Viral Claim of Hidden Airport for Cocaine Smuggling

The Kebbi State Government has dismissed as false and malicious a viral social media video alleging the discovery of a secret airport in the Argungu forest purportedly being used for cocaine smuggling.

Speaking to journalists in Birnin Kebbi on Wednesday, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Publicity, Yahaya Sarki, described the video as “fabricated and misleading,” insisting it was designed to tarnish the image of the state.

Sarki clarified that there is no record of drug trafficking or illegal airstrip operations in Argungu Local Government Area or any part of Kebbi State.

“The only airport in Kebbi State is the Sir Ahmadu Bello International Airport in Birnin Kebbi. All the names and details mentioned in that video are fictitious,” he said.

He added that no official reports or investigations by the Nigeria Customs Service, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), or any other security agency corroborated the claims.

The government spokesperson urged the public to disregard the video and refrain from spreading misinformation capable of inciting fear or disunity.

Sarki reiterated that the administration of Governor Nasir Idris remains committed to peace, transparency, and close collaboration with security and anti-drug agencies to maintain law and order across the state.
