The Kebbi State Government has directed the reopening of all primary and secondary schools that were previously shut down due to terrorist attacks and heightened insecurity across the state.
The directive was issued through separate statements signed by Isah Ibrahim, Public Relations Officer of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), and Aliyu Bagarawa, Deputy Director (Academics) at the Kebbi State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education.
According to the statements, school administrators, teachers, parents, students, and education secretaries are expected to take note of the resumption date and comply strictly with the government’s directive.
School heads have been instructed to make adequate preparations to ensure a smooth return to academic activities, while parents and guardians were urged to ensure that their children and wards resume school promptly.
In a related circular, zonal education officers, principals, head teachers, and proprietors of private schools were informed that the first week of resumption will be dedicated to first-term examinations.
The circular further stated that normal academic activities and classroom teaching will begin on Monday, January 12, 2026.
Authorities stressed that all schools must adhere strictly to the approved resumption timetable and examination schedule.
Schools across Kebbi State were earlier closed following the November 2025 abduction of 25 schoolgirls from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga. During the attack, the school’s vice principal was killed, raising serious concerns over security in educational institutions.
Governor Nasir Idris, who strongly condemned the incident, had directed the military to investigate the withdrawal of troops from the school prior to the attack.
On November 25, the governor announced the successful rescue of the abducted students, maintaining that no ransom was paid by either the state or the Federal Government.
“The Kebbi State Government did not pay a kobo, and neither did the Federal Government. The rescue was achieved solely through the efforts of the security agencies,” Idris said.
