Kidnappers Hold Prophetess in Kogi for 19 Days Despite ₦10 Million Ransom, Family Appeals for Help

The family of Prophetess Iyabo Yagba Asuajo, Secretary to the Chairman of Yagba East Local Government Area in Kogi State, has raised alarms over her prolonged captivity, 19 days after being abducted along the Egbe–Eruku Road, a route notorious for repeated bandit attacks.

According to reports by Reporters, Prophetess Asuajo and her husband, Prophet Michael, were kidnapped on October 25, 2025, while travelling along the dangerous route. Despite paying a ransom of ₦10 million, only her husband was released, while the prophetess remains in the kidnappers’ custody.

A distraught family member told Okun Media Hub on Friday that local authorities had remained silent and security intervention had been slow.

“My mother-in-law is still in their custody. She has not been released since October 25. The kidnappers collected ₦10 million and released only my father-in-law. The chairman has been silent, and we don’t know what else to do. Please help us,” the relative said.

The family described the ongoing detention as emotionally devastating and called on the Kogi State Government, Yagba East Local Government authorities, and security agencies to act urgently to secure her release. They specifically urged Governor Usman Ododo, the Kogi State Police Command, and other relevant security formations to intensify rescue efforts.

Residents of Yagba East have also expressed growing concerns over the rising insecurity along the Egbe–Eruku axis, calling for decisive government action to curb kidnappings and restore public confidence.

This latest incident comes amid a spate of violent attacks across Kogi State. SaharaReporters previously reported that terrorists attacked a commercial bus along the Ayere–Kabba road in Ijumu Local Government Area, leaving one passenger dead and several others injured. Witnesses said the attack occurred around 5 p.m. on Sunday, with gunmen opening fire on travellers, though some vehicles managed to escape.

“One person was confirmed dead at the general hospital, while others are receiving treatment for gunshot injuries,” a source said.

Residents warn that the Ayere–Kabba axis has become increasingly dangerous, with frequent attacks by armed gangs believed to operate between Kogi and neighboring Kwara State.

The family of Prophetess Asuajo and residents alike continue to plead for swift government intervention to ensure her safe return.
