Media personality Kikelomo Atanda-Owo Abati has voiced strong disapproval of former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose following his post-birthday comments and viral confrontation with former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
Fayose had recently criticized Obasanjo’s remarks made at his 65th birthday celebrations in Lagos, describing the 89-year-old ex-president’s comments as “irresponsible” and suggesting that Obasanjo belongs “in the zoo.”
Speaking on her weekly Silverbird Television show, Real Talk With Kike, Abati said the former governor’s milestone birthday should not have been turned into a political battlefield.
“Such celebrations are meant for love, reflection, gratitude, and appreciation—not political tension or ego-driven posturing,” she said.
Abati also questioned Fayose’s guest list, calling it a “guest-list for clout,” and criticized him for attempting a reunion with Obasanjo despite their long-standing rift. “A 65th birthday is not the platform for forced reconciliation between political foes, especially when both parties have repeatedly shown that their relationship is fractured beyond a casual handshake,” she added.
She urged Fayose to focus on personal and family healing, noting the absence of his mother and siblings at the event due to internal family disputes—issues she argued deserved more attention than political theatrics.
Abati also called on Obasanjo to exercise restraint, noting that as an elder and former president, he should have set an example of maturity. “When elders act without tact, it sends the wrong message to the younger generation,” she said.
Concluding, Abati emphasized that both men missed an opportunity for grace: Fayose should have prioritized humility and family reconciliation, while Obasanjo should have handled the situation with emotional intelligence appropriate for his age and national stature.
