Indian batter Kiran Navgire etched her name into cricket history by smashing the fastest-ever century in women’s T20 cricket, reaching her hundred in just 34 balls during the Senior Women’s T20 Trophy 2025 in Nagpur.
Playing for Maharashtra, the 31-year-old produced a breathtaking unbeaten 106 off 35 deliveries, guiding her team to a nine-wicket victory over Punjab in only eight overs.
A Record-Breaking Innings in Nagpur
Navgire’s stunning performance came at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Ground, where she tore into the Punjab bowling attack with relentless aggression. Her innings featured 14 fours and seven sixes, maintaining a strike rate of 302.86, a record in itself — the first woman ever to score a century at a strike rate above 300.
Maharashtra chased down Punjab’s modest total of 110-6 in just eight overs, finishing on 113-1, with Navgire doing most of the heavy lifting at the top of the order.
Breaking Sophie Devine’s Record
Navgire broke the previous world record held by New Zealand star Sophie Devine, who reached her century in 36 balls for Wellington Blaze in 2021.
Her explosive hitting not only surpassed Devine’s mark but also placed her ahead of West Indies’ Deandra Dottin, who holds the record for the fastest international women’s T20 hundred (38 balls against South Africa in 2010).
A Stunning Comeback from the Former India Batter
Once a promising face in Indian cricket, Navgire last represented India in October 2022, having played six T20 internationals. Despite a short international stint, she remained a powerful domestic performer, known for her aggressive batting in the Women’s Premier League (WPL), where she played for UP Warriorz.
Speaking after the game, Navgire dedicated the innings to her team and fans, emphasizing that her focus was always on playing fearless cricket.
“It feels incredible to break a world record. I just wanted to enjoy my batting and contribute to the team’s win. Records are a bonus,” Navgire said.
What This Means for Indian Women’s Cricket
Navgire’s heroics come at a crucial time for Indian women’s cricket, which has seen a surge in domestic talent since the inception of the WPL. Her record-breaking century reinforces the growing competitiveness of India’s domestic circuit and the rising standards in women’s T20 cricket globally.
With her explosive form, Navgire could be on the radar for a potential India comeback ahead of the 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup.
