
Kogi State Polytechnic has terminated the appointment of Mr. Mukhtar Muhammed, a lecturer, following allegations of sexually molesting a student.
In a separate disciplinary action, Mrs. Funmilayo Afolabi was also dismissed for being absent from duty for nine months.
The Polytechnic’s Director of Public Relations and Protocol, Mrs. Uredo Omale, announced the decisions on Sunday during the sidelines of the school’s Governing Council meeting.
“The Governing Council of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja approved several promotions, including 11 Principal Lecturers to Chief Lecturers and 572 other teaching and non-teaching staff as part of the 72nd Regular Meeting held on December 19, 2025,” the statement read.
Promoted staff include Mr. Ehimony James Baba Tunde, Mrs. Ajayi Omolola Felicia, Engr. Anikoh Godwin Ateiza, Dr. Acharu Faith Tony-Okeme, Dr. Raji Abdulwasiu Adeyemi, and others across various schools in the institution. Additionally, 49 academic staff and 71 non-teaching staff were promoted for the 2024 exercise, and 225 academic staff and 227 non-teaching staff for 2025.
On disciplinary matters, the Council approved the demotion of Mr. Audu Mathew, Deputy Registrar, to Principal Assistant Registrar for negligence of duty. More notably, the Council approved the termination of Mr. Mukhtar Muhammed for sexual misconduct and Mrs. Funmilayo Afolabi for prolonged absence from duty.
