Fuji music legend and Olori Omooba of Ijebu land, Alhaji Wasiu Ayinde (KWAM1), has expressed concerns over what he describes as attempts by the Fusengbuwa Ruling House to sideline him from the nomination process for the next Awujale of Ijebuland.
In a letter addressed to Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, KWAM1, who belongs to the Fidipote Ruling House, alleged that the Fusengbuwa house’s current procedures conflict with the Chieftaincy Declaration, Obas and Chiefs Law of Ogun State 2021.
The letter comes ahead of the resumption of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House’s nomination process on January 12, 2026, in Ijebu Ode, following an earlier pause. KWAM1 noted that the process, including directives for candidates to collect nomination cards and appear before a screening committee, was inconsistent with both family and state regulations.
The musician’s lawyer, Dr. Wahab Shittu, SAN, sent the letter on January 8, 2026, emphasizing that all members of the ruling house are entitled to participate in nominating candidates, and no subgroup can unilaterally control the process.
Earlier, KWAM1 had approached the Ogun State High Court seeking an injunction to halt the selection, but the court declined the request, and he subsequently withdrew the suit without explanation.
He urged Governor Abiodun to intervene, ensuring due process, fairness, and the integrity of the nomination process, while safeguarding his rights and those of other interested members.
The nomination follows the passing of Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, who died at 91 on July 13, 2025, after a historic 65-year reign. Several princes have indicated interest in succeeding the late Awujale.
