Kwankwaso Alleges Intimidation in Kano, Urges Officials Not to Succumb to Pressure

Former Kano State Governor and leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has accused the current Kano State government of pressuring local government chairmen, councillors, secretaries, and other officials to declare allegiance either to his Kwankwasiyya faction or the rival Gandujiyya movement led by former Governor and ex-APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje.

Speaking in Hausa in a video released on Tuesday, Kwankwaso described the reported political intimidation as a troubling strategy no true supporter of Kano State should condone. He claimed officials were being coerced to declare political loyalties amid speculation that Governor Abba Yusuf might defect from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Kwankwaso recounted the struggles and victories of the Kwankwasiyya movement, highlighting the hardships his supporters endured during past elections in 2015, 2019, and 2023. He stressed that loyalty to governance aligned with Kwankwasiyya values has always been central to Kano politics, warning that deviation often invites punitive measures.

Addressing officials under pressure, Kwankwaso urged them to comply without fear, reassuring them of support and emphasizing that the movement’s network is aware of their challenges. “There is no problem if they sign; the important thing is to avoid harm and remain steadfast,” he said, calling for trust in Allah and patience until the next political contest.

He also expressed gratitude to Kano residents and his supporters for enduring intimidation and surveillance, while acknowledging Governor Yusuf’s public recognition of Kwankwaso’s previous administration and its contributions to the state.

Kwankwaso concluded by urging unity and resilience among supporters and officials, stressing that the current tensions could be eased with calm and strategic patience.
