The Kwara State Government has taken a significant step toward resolving its gratuity arrears by inaugurating two nonpartisan technical committees.
The committees, one for state-level and another for local government pensioners, are tasked with verifying and cleaning up the records of retired civil servants to facilitate the orderly payment of their outstanding gratuities.
In a statement released on Friday, the Commissioner for Finance, Dr. Hauwa Nuru, announced that the eight-person state committee will be chaired by the State Auditor-General, while the local government committee will be led by the Local Government Auditor-General.
The panels include representatives from labour unions (NLC, TUC), retired civil servants’ associations, and certified finance professionals. Their primary goal is to ensure an “accurate and transparent compilation” of the gratuity lists, paving the way for automated bank payments to eligible pensioners based on their retirement date.
