Kwarans Rally for Gambari Ahead of 2027 Governorship Race

The streets of Ilorin came alive last weekend with an unprecedented display of public support for Ambassador Abdulfatai Yahaya Seriki Gambari—affectionately known as Amba—as citizens called on him to consider contesting the 2027 Kwara State governorship election.

The spontaneous rally, stretching from Taiwo Road to the Post Office Roundabout, was notable for its organic, citizen-driven nature, organized independently of political machinery or vested interests. Participants included artisans, traders, professionals, students, youths, and community leaders, all expressing their conviction that Amba embodies the bridge between Kwara’s current achievements and a prosperous future.

Despite being away on a business engagement in China, Amba’s absence only amplified public enthusiasm, signaling widespread grassroots support. Speakers at the rally described him as a visionary leader, a bridge-builder across political divides, and a loyal progressive aligned with the All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Former Registrar of the College of Education, Oro, Alhaji Salihu Olayinka Gegele, called the rally “a natural verdict of the people,” emphasizing Amba’s credibility, humility, and consistent record of empowerment. Former Kwara State House of Assembly member Hon. Ali Jimoh highlighted the event as proof that “leadership still has moral value in our society,” noting Amba’s dedication to youth and community development.

The National Women Advancement and Political Development Initiative (NWAPDI), represented by Dr. (Mrs.) Sa’adat Yetunde Yusuf, praised Amba’s support for women-led initiatives and inclusive governance. Similarly, youth leaders, including Hon. Suleiman Lekan Gaddafi, hailed the rally as a reflection of young people taking ownership of their future, recognizing Amba as a symbol of hope, honesty, and hard work.

As Kwara State continues to witness infrastructural and administrative progress, many citizens see Amba as a candidate capable of consolidating achievements while introducing innovation, inclusivity, and economic growth.

With 2027 approaching, public sentiment is clear: Kwarans are seeking a leader who is a builder, a unifier, and a visionary—and for many, Ambassador Seriki Gambari embodies that vision.
