Lagos Police Dismiss Rumors of Unrest, Assure Safety on Third Mainland Bridge

The Lagos State Police Command has moved to calm public fears following reports that some youths were allegedly planning to disrupt movement on the Third Mainland Bridge, one of the busiest and most strategic routes connecting Lagos Mainland to the Island.

In a statement issued on Monday, October 27, 2025, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed that the police are aware of the circulating messages about a possible disruption around the Oworonshoki axis of the bridge. The Command stressed that it has taken proactive steps to ensure that law and order are maintained and that the safety of residents and road users is not compromised.

“The Command wishes to assure the public that adequate security measures have been put in place to maintain law and order across the state,” SP Adebisi said.

The police have fully deployed officers along the bridge and adjoining routes to prevent any obstruction, unlawful gatherings, or potential breach of peace. Residents are urged to continue their daily routines without fear, while also cooperating with security personnel in the discharge of their duties.

The statement further emphasized that the Command remains steadfast in its commitment to protecting lives and property, as well as ensuring the free flow of traffic across Lagos State. Authorities reiterated that they are prepared to respond swiftly and decisively to any situation that could threaten public safety or the stability of the state.

This reassurance comes amid growing public concern sparked by online messages warning of possible unrest or traffic disruptions on the Third Mainland Bridge. Given the bridge’s importance as a major transportation link for commuters, traders, and transport operators, the Lagos Police are keen to prevent any panic or unnecessary disruption.

SP Adebisi also appealed to residents to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information that could heighten anxiety. The police reiterated that intelligence-led security operations and regular patrols are ongoing to maintain peace and prevent any acts that could compromise public safety.

By deploying officers strategically along key routes and ensuring continuous monitoring of traffic and public activities, the Lagos State Police have reaffirmed their dedication to public safety, emphasizing that citizens can move freely and safely across the city.
