The Lagos State Police Command has transferred allegations of rape against Pastor Chris Okafor, Senior Pastor of Mountain of Liberation and Miracles Ministries, to the Force Headquarters via Zone 2 Command for further investigation.
Lagos State Police Commissioner Moshood Jimoh disclosed this on Wednesday, noting that Pastor Okafor had initially been served with an invitation to appear before the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of SCID at 10 a.m. on Monday. The cleric failed to appear as scheduled, prompting the Commissioner to order his arrest. He later appeared on Tuesday.
Commissioner Jimoh explained that the matter had already been under investigation at a higher level within the Nigeria Police Force for about three weeks, handled by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in Zone 2. “The AIG occupies a higher office than mine as a commander and is my immediate supervisor,” Jimoh said, adding that the case was therefore handed over to the Zone 2 Command.
The Commissioner also emphasized that social media complaints are now taken seriously in policing. “The social media has become a veritable space for people to lodge complaints. We no longer wait for people to come in person before acting in the public interest,” he stated, highlighting the evolving nature of law enforcement in Nigeria.
Investigations into the allegations are ongoing under the Zone 2 Command.
Background:
In December 2025, Pastor Okafor publicly apologized to Nollywood actress Doris Ogala following a marriage dispute that led to her arrest and subsequent release. During a church service, Okafor acknowledged past mistakes while denying several of the accusations made against him. He stated, “Everything that was said is not true… there are so many lies in most of the things that were said,” but still issued an apology to Ogala and others he claimed to have offended.
Separately, a former church member, identified as Ama, has accused Pastor Okafor of raping her at age 15, impregnating her, and later sexually abusing the daughter born from the alleged assault. Both Ama and her daughter spoke to SaharaReporters about their experiences, adding gravity to the ongoing investigation.
