The Lagos State Government has recognized 33 outstanding young agripreneurs with a total of N150 million for their contributions to the state’s agricultural and food systems. The event, organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Systems, highlighted Lagos’ role as a hub for innovation and economic growth.
Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, represented by Deputy Chief of Staff Sam Egube, emphasized that food security is central to both state and national development. He noted that Lagos is leveraging public-private partnerships to strengthen logistics, production, and value chains, ensuring that agricultural output meets market demands.
“Agriculture is not just about planting and harvesting; it’s about connecting farms to tables,” Sanwo-Olu said. He encouraged young people to embrace innovation, noting that limited land should not restrict productivity, citing the Netherlands as a model of tech-driven agriculture.
The Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Systems highlighted the Agrinnovation Club, which links young agripreneurs to Lagos’ broader agricultural transformation agenda. The initiative is part of several programs, including the Produce-for-Lagos Programme and Guaranteed Uptake Fund, aimed at boosting production, market access, and food self-sufficiency.
The Commissioner praised Lagos youth for their creativity, citing innovations like rooftop farming, waste-to-feed initiatives, and digital platforms connecting farmers to buyers. She stressed that lasting agricultural transformation depends on consistent innovation, collaboration, and courage from young people.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Agriculture and Food Systems also commended the Governor’s visionary leadership, noting that initiatives like the Agrinnovation Club are critical for building a sustainable, profitable, and modern agricultural ecosystem. He urged beneficiaries to leverage these opportunities with commitment, integrity, and focus, viewing themselves as partners in shaping Lagos’ smart and inclusive agricultural future.
