Lagos is set to host what organisers are calling Africa’s biggest beach festival, featuring 100 DJs performing non-stop for 96 hours from December 29, 2025, to January 2, 2026. The marathon aims to break the current world record of 55 hours for continuous DJ performance.
Speaking on the festival, Buchi Henry Mbagwu, CEO of Afroxela and the event convener, said the idea was inspired by Lagos’ “Detty December” nightlife and the global curiosity it sparks. “People from Switzerland, Denmark, Norway, France, and Portugal told us they wanted to see Lagos’ party culture firsthand. That was our lightbulb moment,” he said.
The festival will run across three connected beach houses—Kima, Wave, and Athena—creating a single festival arena. DJs will rotate hourly, ensuring 96 straight hours of continuous music, spanning genres from Afrobeats and Amapiano to R&B, Afro House, and hip-hop. The event will also feature fashion shows, fitness sessions, yoga, Zumba, gospel mornings, and diverse culinary offerings.
Mbagwu highlighted the global streaming aspect: “Your afternoon set in Lagos is someone’s midnight in Atlanta or Shanghai. This allows us to showcase Lagos and African creativity worldwide.” The marathon will be livestreamed to over 100 countries via YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, and Twitch.
The line-up blends both established and emerging talents, including DJ Bombastic, Jimmy Jatt, DJ Neptune, DJ Humility, and female DJs like DJ Bella, ensuring gender inclusion in a male-dominated industry.
“This will be Africa’s biggest, longest, and most diverse party festival,” Mbagwu said. “It’s about endurance, celebration, and the Lagos spirit. The energy of the DJs and the power of African sound will make this unforgettable.”
Preparations are in full swing to deliver a safe, well-coordinated, and record-breaking New Year experience for both local and international audiences.
