The Lagos State Signage and Advertisement Agency (LASAA) has recorded significant growth in the past two years, driven by strengthened regulatory measures, operational expansion, and enhanced staff welfare.
The Managing Director, Prince Fatiu Akiolu, disclosed this during an interactive session with senior media executives in Lagos, noting that despite economic challenges, the agency has achieved remarkable milestones across several strategic areas.
Akiolu, who assumed leadership of LASAA about two years ago, attributed the agency’s success to a combination of innovation, improved enforcement, and stronger collaboration with stakeholders. He revealed that the approval for the placement of iconic and visually striking Out-of-Home (OOH) structures across Lagos has transformed the city’s advertising landscape.
“These modern installations do not only elevate the aesthetic appeal of Lagos but also redefine advertising standards with enhanced visibility, durability, and digital integration,” Akiolu stated.
Enhanced Operations and Public Advocacy
According to him, LASAA has created a dedicated Health and Safety Department to promote structural integrity and ensure public safety in outdoor advertising. The agency has also intensified public enlightenment through radio interviews, advocacy campaigns, and statewide roadshows, which have led to improved compliance and increased revenue generation.
Akiolu noted that stringent enforcement measures have minimized illegal signage practices and boosted revenue collection for both the agency and the Lagos State Government.
Commitment to Sustainability and CSR
Highlighting LASAA’s sustainability drive, Akiolu revealed that the agency recycles used flex materials into school bags, which are distributed to public schools through its “LASAA School Storm” initiative.
“This programme not only reduces environmental waste but also educates young people on recycling and environmental conservation. It is a clear reflection of our commitment to sustainability and education,” he said.
Urban Improvement Initiatives
As part of efforts to enhance Lagos’ urban infrastructure, LASAA has embarked on a statewide project to replace dilapidated street directional signs, improving road navigation, safety, and city aesthetics.
In collaboration with other key agencies, the agency also launched a digital house numbering project, designed to assign unique identification numbers to properties across the state, fostering a more organized and formalized addressing system.
Automation and Efficiency
To further streamline its operations, LASAA has introduced SAuto Automation, a digital platform that simplifies the registration and processing of signage and advertisement permits, reducing bureaucracy and improving service delivery.
Akiolu reaffirmed LASAA’s mission to modernize outdoor advertising and signage control in Lagos through effective regulation, urban beautification, and technological innovation.
“Our goal is to build a safer, cleaner, and more visually appealing Lagos that attracts investors and promotes sustainable development,” he concluded.
