Activist and lawyer Chetam Nwala has accused President Bola Tinubu of having an ulterior, political motive when he declared a state of emergency in Rivers State earlier this year.
Speaking on The Morning Brief on Channels Television, Nwala alleged that the emergency was not aimed at stabilizing the state but rather served the president’s 2027 political ambitions.
DAILY POST recalls that in March 2025, President Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers, suspending Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, and members of the state House of Assembly.
Nwala said, “The declaration of emergency was purely political. The president wanted to protect his 2027 ambition within Rivers State. We have seen the governor return like a defeated lion and now defect to the ruling APC to work with the president. This was all because of the state of emergency.”
He further claimed that the move disregarded the impact on Rivers’ economy, focusing solely on political consolidation.
