
In a historic event at Eyanvien Hall, Otorere, the ancient Olomu Kingdom in Ughelli South Local Government Area celebrated the coronation of HRM Albert Akpomudje, SAN, as Eyanvwien-Alaka I, the 14th Ohworode of the kingdom.
The coronation was performed by Olorogun Philip Korobor Atuduhor, the Okpako r’ Illorogun (Oldest Chief) of Olomu Kingdom, at 9:56 a.m., and consecrated by Archbishop of Bendel Province, Dr. Cyril Odotemu. The ceremony was marked by 21 cannon shots, symbolizing the royal occasion.
The title Eyanvwien-Alaka I honors Eyanvwien, the first son of Alaka, a co-founder of Olomu Kingdom.
Following the coronation, the monarch was escorted in a ceremonial motorcade to Eyanvien Hall at Oviri Olomu, headquarters of the Eyanvien Ruling House, where 14 cannon shots were fired, signifying his position as the 14th Ohworode. The procession concluded at his palatial residence at Akperhe Olomu for a grand reception.
The installation adhered to the rotational succession system among Olomu’s three ruling houses, marking a new chapter in the kingdom’s leadership. Traditional rites, drumming, and community celebrations accompanied the event, following the passing of his predecessor.
In his inaugural address, the new monarch pledged to uphold peace, tradition, and development in Olomu, promising to collaborate with the traditional council and engage younger generations.
The coronation, attended by government officials, community leaders, and dignitaries, highlighted the kingdom’s rich cultural heritage and its continuing role in fostering regional unity.
