The Police Service Commission (PSC) has announced that Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) Ben Okolo, in charge of Force Intelligence, will lead the overall police team during Saturday’s Anambra governorship election.

The PSC confirmed that security across Anambra State remains calm, with tightened deployments across strategic locations. The Commission’s monitoring team, headed by retired DIG Taiwo Lakanu, arrived in Awka to oversee police operations and ensure professionalism during the election.

According to the PSC’s Head of Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani, the deployment follows a visit by Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, whose engagement with stakeholders has already yielded positive results. Officers on election duty are reportedly maintaining visible security presence to reassure voters and deter disruptions.

To strengthen accountability, PSC released hotlines for residents and observers to report any misconduct or commendable behavior by police officers. DIG Lakanu emphasized that free, fair, and credible elections require a secure and peaceful environment, assuring that PSC will closely monitor compliance across all local government areas.

Additionally, Commissioner of Police Abayomi Shogunle, recently deployed for the election, has developed a comprehensive operational manual to guide officers in maintaining order and transparency throughout the poll.
