Lyall Cameron Joins Aberdeen on Loan, Aims to “Remind People What I Can Do”

Lyall Cameron is set to continue his Scottish Premiership journey with a loan move from Rangers to Aberdeen, aiming to reignite his season and make an impact at Pittodrie Stadium.

The 23-year-old midfielder, who joined Rangers from Dundee last July, struggled for playing time under new manager Danny Rohl after featuring regularly early in the campaign for Russell Martin. Cameron has made 10 appearances for Rangers this season, scoring once in August.

Loan Move Offers Fresh Opportunity

Cameron expressed excitement over the loan deal, which runs until the end of the season:

“I’m delighted it’s all been sorted out. I wanted to stay in Scotland and join Aberdeen. This is a good opportunity for me to remind people what I can do in this league, and I believe I can help the team. My aim is to play as many games as I can, help the team and just play football again.”

The midfielder could feature as early as Sunday’s Scottish Cup tie against Raith Rovers, with kickoff at 14:30 GMT at Pittodrie. Coverage is available on BBC One Scotland, iPlayer, with radio updates on BBC Radio Scotland & BBC Sounds, and live text commentary on the BBC Sport website and app.

Aberdeen’s Perspective

Aberdeen’s sporting director, Lutz Pfannenstiel, highlighted Cameron’s enthusiasm and commitment as key to securing the deal:

“Lyall was clear in his desire to join Aberdeen. He had interest from other clubs both in England and abroad, but he made it clear to Rangers he wanted this move to Pittodrie to happen. That commitment was hugely attractive to us and played a big part in convincing us to get this deal done.”

The Dons are currently in search of a permanent manager following the recent sacking of Jimmy Thelin, making Cameron’s experience in the Premiership a valuable asset for the squad.

Career Outlook

Cameron’s loan represents a chance to rebuild momentum and showcase his talent in Scotland’s top flight. With regular game time, he aims to contribute immediately to Aberdeen’s league and cup campaigns, while reaffirming his credentials in the eyes of Rangers and the wider Scottish football community.
