Marcus Rashford expresses desire to make Barcelona stay permanent after loan spell

Barcelona, Spain — England forward Marcus Rashford has declared his intention to remain at FC Barcelona beyond the end of his current loan deal from Manchester United, saying he is “enjoying everything” about life in Spain.

The 27-year-old joined Barcelona on loan last summer, and the Catalan club have the option to make the transfer permanent for £28 million — significantly lower than the £40 million fee United would demand from other potential suitors.

Speaking to ESPN, Rashford made his feelings clear about his future:

“For sure, I want to stay,” he said. “I’m enjoying this football club, and I think for anybody who loves football, Barcelona is one of the key clubs in the history of the game. For a player, it is an honour.”

Rashford revived at Barcelona after difficult United spell

Rashford’s contract with Manchester United runs until 2028, but his relationship with current head coach Ruben Amorim has appeared strained since the Portuguese manager’s arrival at Old Trafford. The forward spent the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa, where he rediscovered his scoring touch under Unai Emery, before sealing a surprise move to Barcelona.

Since arriving at the Camp Nou, Rashford has continued his resurgence, scoring five goals in 12 appearances across all competitions, including a brace against Olympiakos in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday.

Now preparing for his first El Clásico against Real Madrid this weekend, Rashford believes the switch to La Liga has reinvigorated his passion for football.

“People forget this, but 23 years of my life was with Manchester United,” he reflected. “Sometimes you just need a change. I think maybe this is the case with me, and I’m enjoying everything.”

Barcelona keen to keep Rashford long-term

Sources close to the club suggest Barcelona are open to triggering their £28 million purchase option, particularly given Rashford’s positive influence both on and off the pitch. Manager Hansi Flick is reportedly impressed with Rashford’s professionalism and work ethic, viewing him as a versatile attacking asset capable of fitting seamlessly into the team’s evolving front line.

If the transfer goes through, Rashford would become one of the few English players to permanently represent Barcelona, joining the ranks of stars like Gary Lineker and Kieran Trippier, who also made successful moves abroad.

A new chapter in Rashford’s career

After years of highs and lows at Manchester United — where he has scored 138 goals in 426 appearances — Rashford seems ready to embrace a fresh start. His rediscovery of form, combined with Barcelona’s growing faith in him, suggests that a long-term stay in Spain could mark a new chapter in his career.

For now, all eyes turn to El Clásico, where Rashford has the chance to make an immediate impact on one of football’s grandest stages.

“I’m loving my football again,” Rashford said. “That’s the most important thing.”
