Marjorie Taylor Greene Blames Trump for Threats After Public Split

Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene has publicly accused U.S. President Donald Trump of creating a climate that threatens her safety, following weeks of escalating online attacks and personal criticism from the former president. Greene, once a staunch Trump ally, said the president’s aggressive rhetoric has spurred threats against her, forcing her to seek guidance from private security firms.

Trump Criticizes Greene Online

The rift between Greene and Trump escalated on Friday when the president publicly denounced her on social media. Trump labeled Greene a “wacky” and “ranting lunatic” for claiming he would not take her calls, and continued his attacks on Saturday, calling her a “lightweight Congresswoman,” “traitor,” and “disgrace” to the Republican Party.

Greene responded by accusing Trump of attempting to intimidate fellow Republicans ahead of a crucial House vote regarding the release of Jeffrey Epstein-related Justice Department files. She also highlighted that this kind of rhetoric has historically led to radicalized individuals issuing threats against public figures, and expressed concern about the personal danger she now faces.

House Vote on Epstein Files

Greene was one of only four House Republicans to join Democrats in signing a petition to force a vote on the release of full Justice Department files tied to Epstein, the convicted child sex offender who had connections with Trump in the 1990s and 2000s. The vote, scheduled for next week, has intensified divisions within the Republican Party.

Trump has dismissed renewed scrutiny of Epstein as a “hoax” orchestrated by Democrats, and hinted that he might back a primary challenger against Greene in her district during next year’s congressional election.

Greene Speaks Out on Threats

On social media platform X, Greene stated:

“Aggressive rhetoric attacking me has historically led to death threats and multiple convictions of men who were radicalized by the same type of rhetoric being directed at me right now. This time by the President of the United States.”

She emphasized that the online attacks have been magnified by radical internet trolls, many of whom she alleges are paid to amplify hostility toward her. Greene also noted that this experience has given her a small understanding of the fear felt by Epstein’s victims, highlighting the personal and political pressures tied to the ongoing investigation.

Broader Political Implications

The feud between Trump and Greene underscores growing factional tensions within the Republican Party, especially as some lawmakers weigh the political risks of breaking from Trump while others remain loyal. Right-wing media personalities and social media influencers have played a key role in amplifying Trump’s attacks and discrediting dissenting Republicans.

As the House prepares to vote on the release of the Epstein files, Greene’s safety concerns and Trump’s public criticism highlight the increasingly volatile intersection of politics, social media, and personal security in U.S. politics.
