The Minister of State for Defence, Alhaji Bello Mohammed Matawalle, has dismissed a report circulating on social media claiming he said security operations in Zamfara State “would not work without him.”
In a statement released on Wednesday, Matawalle described the report as false, clarifying that he never made such a comment.
While acknowledging his concern over the security situation in Zamfara, the minister said he did not grant any interview suggesting that ongoing operations were dependent on his involvement. He warned that the report misrepresented his position and could create unnecessary tension.
Matawalle stressed that his previous remarks highlighted the importance of cooperation among all stakeholders—including federal and state authorities—in effectively addressing insecurity. He emphasized that inclusive collaboration remains essential to managing security challenges.
The minister, a former governor of Zamfara State, reiterated his long-standing advocacy for improved coordination between security agencies and state officials to enhance the fight against banditry.
He also urged media organizations to verify information before publication, noting that accurate reporting is crucial for national security and public trust.
Matawalle concluded by reaffirming his commitment to supporting the Federal Government’s ongoing efforts to restore peace, protect citizens, and improve conditions in affected communities, under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
