England forward Michelle Agyemang has been named BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year 2025 after a breakthrough season that saw her help the Lionesses lift Euro 2025 in Switzerland.
At just 19 years old, Agyemang made a stunning impact after making her senior England debut, scoring decisive late goals in the Euro 2025 quarter-final against Sweden and the semi-final against Italy, earning her the tournament’s Young Player award and the Golden Girl trophy for Europe’s best young female player.
“Wow. Thank you so much. I am so grateful. To all my team-mates, coaches, I am so grateful,” Agyemang said.
“To my family, who have supported me all this year and throughout my career—even if it hasn’t been that long—I love you. A big thank you to God for this opportunity. I am so thankful.”
Club Career and Injury Setback
Agyemang has been on loan at Brighton from Arsenal since September 2024 and rejoined the Seagulls in August following her international success. Last season, she scored five goals in 22 WSL appearances, helping Brighton to a fifth-place finish, their highest ever in the league.
Unfortunately, she is expected to miss the remainder of the 2025-26 season after rupturing her anterior cruciate ligament while playing for England in October.
Award Presentation and Judging Panel
The award was presented by England and Chelsea defender Lucy Bronze and Gladiators star Harry Aikines-Aryeetey. The judging panel included high-profile sports figures such as Maggie Alphonsi, Anita Asante, Libby Clegg, Carl Frampton, and Ebony Rainford-Brent, alongside BBC sport executives and media personalities.
Agyemang’s triumph follows the 2024 award, which was won by darts star Luke Littler, who was also nominated again this year alongside England cricketer Davina Perrin.
