Singer-songwriter Miguel Jontel Pimentel, 40, is speaking candidly about his divorce from Nazanin Mandi, 39, revealing the personal struggles and communication challenges that contributed to the end of their marriage.
The couple, who shared a long history together, officially parted ways in 2022 after reconciling for a short period following their initial split in 2021. Mandi filed for divorce in October 2022, citing irreconcilable differences.
Miguel Admits He Wasn’t in the Right Headspace for Marriage
During a recent appearance on Club Shay Shay, Miguel explained that his focus on his music career left him emotionally unavailable to nurture his marriage.
“I wasn’t in the headspace to be with anyone, and I didn’t know how to communicate that,” he admitted. “I didn’t just build the trust as just a friendship to protect that later on, the becoming a relationship, the way that I could have.”
Reflecting on his mistakes, Miguel said that if he could redo the relationship, he would have been upfront with Mandi about his emotional readiness.
“I would have really said, ‘Hey, I’m actually not ready right now!’ But when you meet someone and you’re like, ‘Man, I really need something special here,’ I can see where everything happened.”
17 Years Together: From Longtime Love to Marriage
Miguel and Mandi shared a nearly two-decade-long relationship, dating for 10 years before getting engaged in 2016, and marrying in November 2018 at the Hummingbird Nest Ranch in Simi Valley, California.
Despite their divorce, Miguel stressed that love and respect remain central to their connection. “We have a tremendous amount of love and are working very hard to not make it about what it was,” he said.
Miguel Finds Healing Through Music and Fatherhood
Since the divorce, Miguel has moved forward with his life. In September, he revealed that he quietly welcomed a child last year with partner Margaret Zhang. He also reflected on personal growth through his music, particularly his song “Always Time” from his latest album CAOS.
“It allowed me to kind of look at myself and go, ‘You know, I made a lot of mistakes, man. I’m not perfect. Never been perfect. Never said I was perfect. And I’m a much more aware person now,’” Miguel shared.
He ended his conversation about Mandi with admiration, emphasizing her worth:
“She’s an amazing person and deserves the best.”
A Journey of Growth and Reflection
Miguel’s openness provides insight into the realities of balancing personal ambition with intimate relationships. His reflections highlight the importance of communication, self-awareness, and growth, demonstrating that even after separation, respect and love can remain intact.
