Aizawl: Mizoram is set to provide home delivery of LPG cylinders across all district headquarters and notified towns in the state by 2026, the state government announced on Wednesday.
Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister B Lalchhanzova stated at a press conference that the government aims to fully implement home delivery in all district headquarters by March 2026, while coverage in notified towns will be completed by September 2026.
“Although the system has begun in some areas, all district headquarters will have complete home delivery by March next year. Subsequently, all notified towns will enjoy 100% home delivery by September,” Lalchhanzova said.
Current Status and Coverage
Currently, home delivery has been successfully implemented in five out of 11 district headquarters, including:
- Aizawl Municipal Corporation area
- Serchhip
- Hnahthial
- Mamit
- Khawzawl
In districts where home delivery is not yet available, consumers are required to bring empty cylinders to designated refill points, where gas agency staff provide refilled cylinders.
Supply Director Saizikpuii, who accompanied the minister, said that Mizoram has over 20 notified towns, and the initial focus will be on areas with existing distributors. He added that Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) has directed all distributors to clear any LPG booking backlog by December 13, 2025, ensuring that online bookings are delivered within two days.
Festive Season Measures and Social Initiatives
Lalchhanzova assured that there would be sufficient LPG supply during the festive season. He also urged churches and other large establishments to use commercial cylinders to prevent shortages for households.
On social welfare, the government reiterated its commitment to providing free gas connections under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY). Currently, 36,031 families in Mizoram have received free connections. The scheme is available to families with an annual income below ₹10,000, ensuring economically weaker households have access to clean cooking fuel.
Collaborative Effort
The minister highlighted that the successful rollout of home delivery requires coordination among the State Supply Department, District Consumer Unions, and IOCL distributors. These efforts aim to improve convenience, safety, and timely access to cooking gas for residents across Mizoram.
