Mumbai: Doctor Stabbed Outside KEM Hospital Over Sister’s Relationship

In a shocking incident in Mumbai, a 26-year-old doctor was allegedly attacked and stabbed outside the King Edward Memorial (KEM) Hospital by his girlfriend’s brother and two of his associates. The attack, which took place on Wednesday morning, has raised concerns about personal safety even within hospital premises.

The victim, Dr. Vishal Yadav, hails from Nallasopara and has been working as a house officer in the hospital’s Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery (CVTS) department since August 1 this year. Police reports indicate that Dr. Yadav had recently started dating a 23-year-old woman, who is also employed at KEM Hospital, roughly three weeks prior to the incident.

According to police sources, the woman’s brother, identified as Farid, reportedly took offense to the relationship and decided to confront Dr. Yadav. Accompanied by two friends, one of whom has been identified as Nabil, Farid approached Dr. Yadav at Ward No. 31 at around 10:30 am on Wednesday. They allegedly asked him to step outside to discuss a matter concerning his sister.

As Dr. Yadav stepped out, the trio reportedly began assaulting him near the Hanuman Temple outside the hospital. During the scuffle, Farid allegedly produced a knife and stabbed Dr. Yadav. Bystanders rushed to his aid and immediately got him admitted to KEM Hospital, where he received urgent medical treatment.

Following the incident, police registered a case against Farid and the two associates for assault and attempted murder. Investigations are underway, with authorities reviewing hospital CCTV footage and collecting statements from witnesses present at the scene.

This incident has sparked concerns about security at hospital premises, highlighting the need for heightened vigilance to protect medical professionals, who often work under stressful conditions and now also face threats from personal disputes spilling into the workplace.

The hospital administration has reportedly assured cooperation with law enforcement and reiterated its commitment to maintaining safety and security for staff and patients alike. Meanwhile, Dr. Yadav is recovering from his injuries, and authorities continue to probe the motives and involvement of the accused.

This violent act has drawn public attention to the broader issue of personal disputes escalating into physical attacks, underlining the importance of swift legal action and preventive measures in public spaces.
