In a shocking incident reported from Mumbai’s Santacruz area, a woman has been accused of brutally attacking her former lover by stabbing him with a knife in his private parts after allegedly calling him to her house under the pretext of a New Year meeting. The incident, which occurred on January 1, has triggered a police investigation and raised serious questions about interpersonal violence and the misuse of trust in intimate relationships.
According to the Mumbai Police, the injured man has been identified as Joginder Mahto. In his statement to the police, Mahto alleged that the woman, with whom he had previously been in a romantic relationship, invited him to her residence on New Year’s Day. Once he arrived, she allegedly assaulted him and inflicted serious injuries using a knife. The case came to light after the victim sought medical treatment and hospital authorities informed the police.
A Relationship That Ended, but Contact Continued
As per Mahto’s account, the woman was his girlfriend prior to her marriage. Their relationship ended when she got married, and he claimed that he had tried to move on with his life. Mahto told investigators that he now has family responsibilities, including children, and had repeatedly declined to meet the woman despite her persistent attempts to stay in touch.
He alleged that the woman continued to contact him even after her marriage, asking him to meet her. On several occasions, he refused, explaining that he wanted no further involvement and wished to focus on his family. However, on New Year’s Day, the woman allegedly persuaded him to come over, assuring him that she only wanted to meet and talk.
Believing that there was no threat, Mahto agreed to visit her residence in Santacruz, a decision that he says would soon turn into a nightmare.
The Alleged Attack
According to the victim’s statement, the situation escalated soon after he reached the woman’s house. He alleged that she suddenly attacked him with a knife and stabbed him in his private parts. The exact motive behind the assault remains unclear, and police are investigating whether the attack was premeditated or triggered by a sudden altercation.
Despite sustaining serious injuries, Mahto managed to escape from the house. Bleeding and in pain, he fled the scene and made his way to a hospital, where he was admitted for treatment. The nature of his injuries has not been officially detailed, but police sources indicated that the wounds were severe and required immediate medical attention.
Hospital authorities, following standard procedure in cases involving violent injuries, informed the Mumbai Police. Officers later reached the hospital and recorded Mahto’s statement, which formed the basis of the case.
Police Action and Investigation
The Mumbai Police have registered a case against the woman and stated that further investigation is underway. Officials are examining the sequence of events, the history between the two individuals, and any possible evidence from the scene, including the alleged weapon used in the attack.
Police are also likely to question the accused woman to determine her version of events and assess whether there were any prior disputes, threats, or messages exchanged between the two before the incident. Investigators may also look into call records and messages to establish whether the meeting was planned and whether there were warning signs leading up to the assault.
At this stage, police have not disclosed whether the woman has been arrested or detained for questioning, nor have they revealed the specific sections of the Indian Penal Code under which the case has been registered. Officials said more details would emerge as the investigation progresses.
A Case That Highlights Interpersonal Violence
The incident has drawn attention to the darker side of personal relationships and how unresolved emotional conflicts can sometimes escalate into extreme violence. Legal experts note that cases involving former partners can be complex, as they often involve conflicting narratives, emotional history, and questions of intent.
While the investigation will determine the facts, police officials said the victim’s ability to escape and report the crime was crucial in ensuring timely medical care and legal action. They also urged people to exercise caution in personal interactions, particularly when past relationships have ended on complicated terms.
Separate Case: Woman Accused of Blackmailing Ghatkopar Hotelier
In a separate but equally troubling case, Mumbai Police have registered an FIR against a woman for allegedly blackmailing and extorting a 58-year-old hotelier from the Ghatkopar area. According to the police, the woman threatened to implicate the man in a false rape case unless he paid her ₹2 crore as a one-time “settlement” and ₹1 lakh every month thereafter.
The Parksite police station registered the case after the hotelier approached authorities, claiming that he had already paid a substantial amount under pressure. Police said the woman had allegedly extracted around ₹22 lakh from the victim over a period of time before escalating her demands.
The accused in this case has been booked under charges related to blackmail, extortion, and criminal intimidation. Investigators are now examining financial records, communication between the two parties, and other evidence to substantiate the allegations.
Police Caution and Ongoing Probes
Both cases, though unrelated, underline the complexities faced by law enforcement when dealing with crimes rooted in personal relationships. Mumbai Police officials said that thorough investigations are underway in both matters and cautioned against jumping to conclusions until all facts are established.
In the Santacruz stabbing case, police said they are focusing on collecting medical reports, forensic evidence, and witness statements to build a clear picture of what transpired on New Year’s Day. In the Ghatkopar extortion case, investigators are tracing money transfers and assessing whether similar complaints exist against the accused woman.
As these cases continue to unfold, authorities have reiterated the importance of reporting crimes promptly and seeking legal recourse rather than succumbing to fear or coercion. The outcomes of the investigations are expected to shed more light on the circumstances surrounding these incidents and determine the legal consequences for those involved.
