The Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists (NAPE) held its 43rd Annual International Conference and Exhibition (AICE) in Lagos on November 11, 2025, featuring its signature African Night celebration.
The event also marked a leadership transition, as Mrs. Cecilia Olajumoke officially became NAPE President, succeeding Johnbosco Uche. Olajumoke emphasized NAPE’s commitment to capacity building, increased exploration, and supporting professionals and students in the petroleum sector. She highlighted cost-reduction innovations such as converting diesel-powered barges to compressed natural gas (CNG).
During the African Night, veteran actors Afeez Oyetoro (Saka) and Tina Mba were honored for their contributions to the entertainment industry. Saka underscored the importance of humility, dedication, and respect in personal and professional growth.
The conference brought together industry operators, analysts, and stakeholders, exploring strategies to revitalize Nigeria’s petroleum exploration and production under the theme: “Revitalising the Nigerian Petroleum Exploration and Production Strategies for Energy Security and Sustainable Development.”
Key highlights included Shell’s reaffirmation of long-term commitment to Nigeria, and remarks by Ondo State Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, who discussed local refining initiatives and the upcoming 500,000-barrel-per-day refinery in Ilaje, aimed at boosting domestic refining capacity and employment.
The conference also coincided with NAPE’s 50th anniversary, celebrating decades of contributions to Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.
