NCS FOU Zone ‘A’ Intercepts Over N10 Billion in Prohibited Goods

The Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone ‘A’ of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ikeja, intercepted prohibited goods valued at N10.1 billion between April 23 and December 10, 2025. The outgoing Area Controller, Mohammed Shuaibu, handed over leadership to Aliyu Gambo during a ceremony in Lagos.

Key highlights of the operations:

  • Total seizures: 761 items across 476 interceptions.
  • Major items seized include:
    • 38 trailers of foreign parboiled rice
    • 98 exotic tokunbo vehicles
    • 2,350 kg of Cannabis Sativa
    • 1,820 jerrycans of PMS (petrol)
    • 15 assorted rifles and 4,841 rounds of ammunition
    • 25 kg of crystal methamphetamine
    • 2 industrial drones and 4 cylinders of explosives (50kg each)
    • $20,000 USD and 110 CFA (≈N31 million) handed to EFCC
    • 8 containers of expired pharmaceuticals worth N7.1 billion
  • Revenue recovery: N419 million from under-valuations and false declarations.
  • Arrests: 38 suspects connected to smuggling activities.

Incoming Controller Aliyu Gambo pledged to:

  • Consolidate past successes and strengthen intelligence-driven anti-smuggling operations.
  • Maintain high standards of integrity, discipline, and accountability.
  • Deepen collaboration with stakeholders, sister agencies, and community leaders.
  • Prioritize officers’ welfare and capacity building to enhance operational efficiency.

The handover reflects NCS’s continued commitment to combat smuggling, protect national security, and facilitate lawful trade in Lagos and surrounding areas.
