Newly Appointed Service Chiefs Arrive National Assembly for Screening

Newly appointed service chiefs appeared before the Senate on Wednesday for their official screening at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja.

The nominees arrived at the complex around 10 a.m., accompanied by several senior military officers.

The Senate had earlier postponed the exercise to Wednesday, October 29, from its initial date to allow for better coordination and preparation.

The development followed a letter from President Bola Tinubu, which was read on the floor by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, requesting the expedited confirmation of the new service chiefs.

In the letter, President Tinubu specifically sought the confirmation of General Olufemi Oluyede as the Chief of Defence Staff, among other key military appointments.

Akpabio explained that the rescheduling was necessary to enable the newly appointed officers to assume their duties without delay, ensuring the smooth functioning of the nation’s security apparatus.

“The confirmation of the service chiefs is crucial for continuity, effective coordination, and stability within the nation’s security architecture,” Akpabio stated.

The screening session, which is expected to hold behind closed doors after an initial open session, marks a key step in the formal assumption of office for the new military leadership.
