NewsDirect, a leading integrated print and digital media organisation, has launched its flagship corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme, the Inkline Initiative, backed by a ₦20 million fund dedicated to developing the next generation of Nigerian media professionals.
The fund, spread across five years, is aimed at strengthening media education, revitalising school press clubs, and equipping young people with the skills required to thrive in today’s fast-changing communication landscape.
Speaking at the launch, Publisher and Executive Director of NewsDirect, Prince Mathew Ibiyemi, said the initiative demonstrates the company’s long-term commitment to nurturing emerging talent and empowering future communicators.
“This dedicated fund will reinvent and equip Press & Literary clubs in secondary schools across Nigeria, fostering the skills of future media professionals,” he said.
Ibiyemi, who recently visited one of the benefiting schools—LHS Schools—added that the initiative will also provide intensive training for practicing media professionals seeking to sharpen their skills.
Mentorship and Practical Training at the Core
A key element of the Inkline Initiative is its focus on mentorship and hands-on learning. NewsDirect is inviting experienced journalists, editors, broadcasters, and digital media specialists to volunteer as trainers for students participating in the programme.
“We believe the future of credible journalism and creative communication lies in the hands of today’s youths. Our ₦20 million commitment is an investment in that future,” Ibiyemi added.
“We are not just providing equipment; we are building capacity in public speaking, fact-checking, mobile videography, AI literacy, and creative writing—ensuring the next generation is prepared to lead.”
Partnerships and Expressions of Interest
Inkline by NewsDirect is seeking collaborations with additional secondary schools and organisations across Nigeria to expand the movement. Schools or individuals who wish to nominate a school for participation are encouraged to send an expression of interest to [email protected].
The initiative marks a major step in strengthening Nigeria’s media ecosystem by investing in young talents who will shape the future of journalism and creative communication.
