Niger Police Arrest Woman for Attempted Trafficking of Three Children

The Niger State Police Command has arrested a 40-year-old woman, Victoria Ebunoha Chukwumezie, for allegedly attempting to traffic three underage children at Diko Junction in Suleja Local Government Area.

According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, the suspect, who resides in Nyanya, Abuja, was apprehended on November 5, 2025, around 5 p.m. while in possession of three children suspected to have been abducted for human trafficking.

“The suspect was intercepted by operatives from Gawu-Babangida Division stationed at Diko Junction,” SP Abiodun said. “During interrogation, she stated that the children, aged between 2 and 3 years, were taken from Lambata, and she was transporting them to Abuja for care.”

The children have been identified as Kazeem, Ya’amadu, and Idris. Police confirmed that the children’s parents have been informed and investigations into the matter are ongoing.

Separate Arrests for Impersonation and Robbery

In another case, Halilu Haggai Haruna and Maiyaki Ayuba were arrested for conspiracy, impersonation, and robbery/extortion following a report at Tudun-Wada Division.

SP Abiodun explained that the suspects, posing as EFCC operatives, allegedly stopped a victim on October 30, 2025, at Shiroro Roundabout in Minna, accused him of fraud, extorted ₦400,000, and forcibly took his motorcycle.

“With the assistance of technical intelligence, the suspects were apprehended on November 2, 2025, at about 1 a.m. in their residences in Sauka-Kahuta, Minna,” the PRO stated.

Police confirmed that investigations into both cases are ongoing as they continue to clamp down on human trafficking and criminal activities in the state.
