Nigeria’s drive to modernise its agricultural sector has received a major boost following strategic engagements with leading agribusiness firms in Beijing, China.
The high-level delegation, led by Kaduna State Governor Senator Uba Sani and Director-General of the Nigeria–China Strategic Partnership (NCSP), Mr. Joseph Tegbe, visited prominent Chinese livestock and poultry enterprises, including Beijing Doudian Yisheng Halal Meat Industry Co. Ltd and CP Food Layers and Eggs Ltd.
The visits are part of ongoing efforts to accelerate Nigeria’s livestock sector development and advance agro-industrial growth in Kaduna State and across the country. The delegation also engaged with DQY Ecological Farm, a subsidiary of the China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) Group, renowned for its advanced agricultural technology platforms.
Officials highlighted that the discussions focused on deepening technical cooperation, finalising project frameworks, and securing long-term investment commitments from Chinese partners.
The NCSP stated that the mission aligns with the Federal Government’s strategic priorities on food security, agricultural industrialisation, and foreign investment, under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
A centerpiece of the collaboration is the $200 million National Integrated Poultry Development Project, with its pilot phase in Kaduna State. Designed for eventual replication across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, the project aims to become one of West Africa’s most technologically advanced poultry enterprises. It is expected to reduce the market cost of eggs and other poultry products through large-scale, efficient production.
Once fully operational, the Kaduna pilot is projected to generate over $450 million annually and create more than 350,000 direct and indirect jobs along the national poultry value chain. Analysts note that the initiative will significantly enhance food production, accelerate agro-industrialisation, boost export competitiveness, and support Nigeria’s economic diversification efforts.
The delegation expressed appreciation to the Government of the People’s Republic of China for its continued partnership and reaffirmed NCSP’s commitment to fostering high-impact bilateral collaborations that modernise agriculture and create inclusive economic opportunities for Nigerians.
