A Lagos lawmaker has called for international support and recognition for Nigeria’s recent growth, urging global leaders to commend, rather than threaten, the country.
Hon. Adewale Temitope Adedeji, representative of Ifako-Ijaiye Constituency I at the Lagos State House of Assembly, made the statement on Friday, appealing to US President Donald Trump to reconsider his position on events in Nigeria.
Adedeji praised President Bola Tinubu for strengthening Nigeria’s security architecture, citing the recent change of guard in the Armed Forces as a demonstration of the administration’s commitment to ending insecurity.
“President Tinubu, as a father, is not happy that bandits, terrorists, or whatever name-tag they carry have tried to downplay the gains of the administration, as was the case with previous governments,” Adedeji said.
He added that the appointment of new service chiefs aims to decisively tackle insecurity, stressing that the current administration would not tolerate terrorists or their sponsors.
Highlighting Nigeria’s economic progress, Adedeji noted that global organisations and countries have acknowledged the growing successes under Tinubu, including the strengthening of sub-national governments’ financial power and the rising value of the naira.
“What Nigeria deserves now is global collaboration from the US and other nations in the interest of its citizens. Our youth and citizens must remain patient and trust the government’s ‘Renewed Hope Agenda,’” he said.
Adedeji concluded by urging Nigerians to support the new service chiefs and the administration’s efforts to permanently end insurgency, assuring that these actions align with citizens’ aspirations.
