The event, organized by High Performance Centre and Sports Leadership Hub (HPCSLH), is expected to attract Nigeria’s top amateur golfers and serve as a national qualifier for the 2026 Qatar Open Golf Championship.
Speaking at a briefing, Convener Dr. Bob Olukoya revealed that over 100 golfers have registered for the competition. He explained that the winner from Ibadan will represent Nigeria at the Qatar Open from April 2–4, competing across different handicap categories.
The event drew notable stakeholders, including Moses Ojo, Chair of Oyo State Golf Association; Mike Babalola, IGC Treasurer; Gboyega Makinde, former General Manager of Oyo State Sports Council; and Dolapo Junior from Abeokuta Golf Club. Olukoya highlighted the strong support from the Oyo State government, noting that several officials are golf enthusiasts, helping to elevate the tournament’s profile.
